This summer, the United great rejoined the team as a member of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff. Van Nistelrooy took over as acting first team manager when Ten Hag was fired. Van Nistelrooy has acknowledged that his long-term goal is to gain the top position at Old Trafford, but he may return to an assistant post now that Amorim is expected to take over.

What Van Nistelrooy Said

When asked about his managerial aspirations, Van Nistelrooy told reporters:

“Yeah, of course. I thought this through well when I made the decision to come to United as an assistant manager or assistant coach. Coming to Manchester United was a special occasion for me, and I wanted to be part of this journey, even in an assistant capacity. I have clear ambitions to manage. I signed a two-year deal as an assistant, and I am still committed to staying in that role for now.”
