Sainz aims to take Williams to the top just like McLaren

Calros Sainz says he has a goal of taking Williams to the top.
Carlos Sainz surprised the entire Formula 1 world by signing a contract with Williams at the end of July.

The decision was made after the 30-year-old Spaniard learned that he would have to give up his Ferrari seat to Lewis Hamilton next year.

Sainz also received significant offers from teams such as Alpine and Audi, but chose to join Williams.

It was not an easy choice, Sainz told Auto Motor und Sport.

The Spaniard said: “There were a few good options before me until the day I signed but I followed my instincts.”

“Of course I have the utmost respect for the Audi brand. My father told me a thousand times how good they will be. He is 100 percent sure that Audi will be strong in the future.”

“But as much as I wanted to help build something, I also wanted to get good results in the long run. For me, Williams was the best option in that regard.”

“I still stand by that decision. Time will tell if I was right. My instincts told me that this project moving forward with James Vowles was the best solution in the short to medium term.”

“I feel like I started the Williams project at a similar time to when I joined McLaren. When I arrived, the team was already through its worst. They are on the rise. My aim is to accelerate that rise.”

“When I left McLaren I knew I was leaving a good team and that they would be successful.”

“I am happy that after three years my feeling has been confirmed. Looking at the discussions we have had so far, I feel that a strong team has been built at Williams and that there are good people there who will make the team competitive.”
