Sporting CP Appoint Joao Pereira to Replace Ruben Amorim as Head Coach

Joao Pereira, a former Portuguese international, was quickly named Sporting CP’s next head coach after Ruben Amorim left to join Manchester United.

After falling behind 2-0 against Braga, Amorim pulled off a stunning 4-2 comeback victory to end his time at Sporting. On Monday, he formally left for his new position at Old Trafford.

The Promotion of Pereira

After retiring from Sporting in 2021, Pereira swiftly transitioned into coaching the team’s Under-23 squad before taking over Sporting B earlier this year. He now takes charge of a senior side with an outstanding 100 percent record from 11 Primeira Liga games after impressing Sporting’s management with his performance with the young group.

In the UEFA Youth League, Pereira captained Sporting’s U19 squad, which won three games and drew one, including a thrilling 2-1 triumph over Manchester City’s U19s. Given his track record of success and familiarity with the team, he is a logical choice to succeed Amorim as Sporting looks to maintain their impressive league performance.
