Surer: “For Leclerc to be fast, the car must be exactly as he wants it”

Marc Surer thinks Carlos Sainz is a more stable option than Charles Leclerc.
With Ferrari signing Lewis Hamilton for next season, the rivalry between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz has also come to an end.

In the process, Ferrari decided to keep Charles Leclerc in the team, while Carlos Sainz announced that he would leave the team at the end of the season and move to Williams.

However, former F1 driver Marc Surer criticized Ferrari’s choice. While Surer admitted that Leclerc was a faster driver, he emphasized that Sainz was more consistent and lucky.

“Charles Leclerc is faster, but Carlos Sainz is the luckier one,” Marc Surer told YouTube channel Formel1.de.

“Sainz’s strength is that he can handle a car that is not perfect; he can adapt to it and manage it. If the car is good, Leclerc is incredibly fast.”

“But only when the car is exactly how he wants it.”

“Carlos can win races that he is not expected to win. For example, last year in Singapore he was the only one who could beat Red Bull. He has also been on the podium a few times this year. That’s the difference with Sainz; he can turn things around.”

“But if Ferrari wanted to be world champion, they had to choose the fastest one. So Leclerc is the right choice. But Sainz could always be a more reliable option.”
