Taylor Twellman Recommends Jose Mourinho for the US National Team
The United States Men’s National Soccer Team has parted ways with Gregg Berhalter following the disappointment at Copa America and is now searching for a new head coach. With names like Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino being mentioned, former national player Taylor Twellman has suggested Jose Mourinho.
Twellman’s Surprise Claim About Mourinho
Former national star Taylor Twellman, speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, stated that the national team should try every possible avenue to bring in a world-renowned coach. Twellman made a surprising claim about Mourinho’s contract at Fenerbahçe, saying, “Is Klopp 100% not coming? Because if there’s a 5% chance he might come and wants to join in January 2025, we can make that work. If it’s a no, it’s a no. Call Jose Mourinho. What does he want to do? Jose Mourinho has a release clause in Turkey that activates on January 1, 2025. I’m telling everyone. I’ve received criticism from US soccer fans on this, but I still believe it. If necessary, talk to 100 people, but you can’t spend 14 months re-hiring Gregg Berhalter after the 2022 World Cup.”
Patrick Vieira Also on the List
Twellman also mentioned Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira, who has MLS experience, as a candidate: “He won a World Cup. He loves the American player. But when he walks into that room, every player’s tail will be between their legs because he doesn’t back down from anyone.”
Time for a New Head Coach
The US National Team hopes to act quickly in its search for a new head coach, but with matches against Canada and New Zealand in September, they have some time to find the right choice.
