DeMar DeRozan Praises Pairing with Domantas Sabonis on Sacramento Kings

DeMar DeRozan, the Sacramento Kings’ newly acquired forward, is excited about his on-court relationship with Domantas Sabonis as the team prepares to make a playoff push after missing out last season.

During training camp, DeRozan expressed his excitement about running plays with Sabonis, who is recognized for his excellent basketball IQ and versatility as a big man.

“You can’t guard it. That’s what I appreciate about it: having a high IQ and the ability to screen, throw the ball, and make rapid decisions. You have to make a decision.”

DeRozan went on to discuss the duo’s versatility and the issues it provides for defenders: “When I’m coming off, or if he’s gonna keep it, he’s gonna score it, there’s just so many options out of that.” And being able to play out of that makes it difficult for defensive guys to make a judgment between either of us.”

DeRozan’s Potential Impact for the Kings

DeRozan’s devastating midrange game makes him a huge danger in pick-and-roll situations, something the Kings hope to take advantage of with Sabonis as a screen-setter and playmaker. Last season, DeRozan averaged 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 48% from the field, 33% from beyond the arc, and 85% from the foul line. His excellent performance earned him second place in the Clutch Player of the Year voting, trailing only Steph Curry.

The Kings are hoping that the DeRozan-Sabonis duo will boost their offensive potency and provide them the necessary edge to return to postseason contention.
