DeMarcus Cousins proposes 2-minute ‘fight sessions’ to boost NBA ratings
Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla recently made headlines by suggesting that the NBA should allow power plays and fighting, similar to the NHL. It seems he’s not alone in wanting to add more entertainment to the NBA.
11-year NBA veteran center DeMarcus Cousins also believes that introducing two-minute “fight sessions” between players and coaches during games would boost the league’s ratings.
“If I was running things, obviously, I wouldn’t mind a little two-minute fight session, something like hockey. That gives guys a few moments to get it off their chest and get back to the game,” Cousins said on the Run It Back show. “I think it’s entertaining. I think it’s great for sports, only the strong survive. That’s part of it for me. I think it would be entertaining. I definitely think it would boost the ratings.”
This comes as NBA TV ratings have reportedly been declining, with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal pointing to the overwhelming number of three-pointers being attempted as a factor.
