Red Bull is reportedly eyeing Franco Colapinto as a potential candidate to replace Sergio Perez after the 2024 season. Perez has not met expectations compared to Max Verstappen, raising Red Bull’s concerns about his long-term future. Liam Lawson, another RB driver, is also mentioned as a candidate for Perez’s seat, and Colapinto’s transfer leaves Red Bull’s lineup preference unclear.

According to journalist Joe Saward, there is now “no doubt” that Red Bull wants to sign a 2025 contract with Colapinto, despite his contract with Williams. Red Bull has reportedly offered Williams around $20 million for Colapinto’s release, even though he might not race with the team until as late as 2027. This offer shows Red Bull sees significant value in Colapinto for future championship efforts.

Perez’s contract adds financial complexity to the situation. According to Damon Hill, Perez’s contract lacks a clause for easy termination based on performance. However, Red Bull has historically had flexibility in changing drivers when necessary.
