Doc Rivers Brings Rajon Rondo Onboard as Bucks Guest Coach

Former NBA standout and champion Rajon Rondo is filling in for another role: guest coach for the Milwaukee Bucks’ training camp.

Rondo and Rivers As the squad gets ready for the 2024–25 season, Reunite Bucks coach Doc Rivers has asked his former player to help out. Sharing a championship triumph with Rivers in 2008 as a Boston Celtics member, Rondo will be providing his knowledge and expertise on the sidelines. Rivers hasn’t said, though, just how long Rondo will stay around.

“You will see him rather often. That’s all I’ll say, Rivers said to Baxter Holmes of ESPN.

High Appreciation of Rondo

Rivers declared Rondo “the smartest player I’ve ever coached,” without holding back his respect for him. He then went on to characterize Rondo as not just smart but also a natural leader with sense of timing for speaking out and restraint. He is a fantastic team player. Just enjoyable, and having him around is fantastic,” Rivers said.

Rondo’s Dreams for Coaching

Rondo personally looks to be getting ready for a future in coaching. “There are several elements involved in coaching,” Rondo said. “You just can’t announce, ‘I’m going to be a coach,’ and then everything works out… Some personalities have to fit together and there is much sacrifice involved. I’m learning about the morning meetings, the hours spent viewing movies — it’s a lot.

Rondo’s cameo appearance seems like the beginning of anything greater in the coaching realm.
