Donnelly: Red Bull must sign Sainz

Red Bull should look to bring in Carlos Sainz, according to Martin Donnelly, a former Formula 1 driver and now a third official at the FIA.
Sergio Perez’s results this season have disappointed both himself and his fans.

The Austrian team has dropped to third place in the constructors’ championship, and as a result Perez’s seat is more shaky than ever.

Speaking to RacingNews365, Donnelly was asked which driver Red Bull Racing should bring in to replace Perez.

Donnelly then replied: “They need to look at Sainz.”

“He’s very experienced. He’s winning races with a car that’s good in qualifying but not so good in races at times.”

“There is a clause in Sainz’s contract that says he can leave Williams if he receives an offer from a top team like Red Bull or Mercedes.”

“If I needed a driver and wanted to develop my car well and move the team forward, I would call Sainz.”

“For Red Bull, it’s more important to score consistently in the constructors’ championship, but they have problems with that because of Sergio.

“McLaren has two good drivers who are consistently scoring points, the same goes for Ferrari.”

“That’s why Red Bull has dropped to third place in the championship. The teams want to win this championship because it brings a lot of prize money.”

“They don’t race for the drivers’ championship because they don’t get paid for it.”
