Enzo Maresca Praises Marc Cucurella: “We Need Seven Players Like Him”
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has spoken highly of Marc Cucurella, calling him a crucial part of the team and even saying he needs “seven players” like the Spaniard. The left-back is set to face his former club Brighton this weekend, and Maresca couldn’t hold back his admiration for the 26-year-old’s influence on the squad.
When asked about Cucurella’s performances so far this season, Maresca had nothing but praise. “Marc is very important. He has something special that you sometimes struggle to find in players,” Maresca explained. “He’s good, and he’s making the players around him good because he’s a guy who’s always talking, always demanding. If you can have five, six, or seven players like Marc in your team, it’s very important. So I’m very happy with Marc.”
A Turnaround Year for Cucurella
After a rocky start following his £62 million ($83m) transfer from Brighton in 2022, Cucurella has really come into his own. 2024 has seen him shine both for Chelsea and for Spain, where he was a key player in their Euro 2024 triumph. His strong form seems to be carrying over into this season, and it’s clear that Maresca sees him as a key piece of the puzzle.
