Akhisarspor Starts the Season Badly with 16 Goals Conceded in 2 Matches

Once a storm in the Super Lig and also a winner of the Ziraat Turkey Cup, Akhisarspor is now in the spotlight due to a series of poor results in recent years. The Manisa representative, which has been relegated to the Regional Amateur League, has made a very poor start to the season, conceding 16 goals in its first two matches.

Struggling with failures and financial difficulties in recent years, Akhisarspor could not start the season as it had hoped. Competing in the Regional Amateur League, Akhisar lost its first match 9-0. In the second match, the Manisa team suffered another defeat, this time 7-0, leaving them shocked by the total of 16 goals conceded in just two matches.

GOALS CONCEDED: 16, GOALS SCORED: 0

Akhisarspor, placed in Group 8 of the Regional Amateur League, faced Eti Maden in its opening match and lost 9-0. In the second match, Akhisar was defeated 7-0 by Manisa 1965 Spor Club, leading to a complete rout. Following these poor results, the fans raised their voices in protest.

OKAN BURUK ONCE COACHED THE TEAM

On March 28, 2017, Okan Buruk was appointed as the head coach of Akhisar Belediyespor for 1.5 years after Tolunay Kafkas left. Under Buruk’s management, who now coaches Galatasaray, Akhisar Belediyespor defeated Fenerbahce in the 2017-18 Turkey Cup final, marking the first time in its history that it claimed the Turkey Cup.

FROM WHERE TO WHERE…

Akhisarspor began its rise by moving up from the 3rd League to the 2nd League at the end of the 2007-2008 season and successfully reached TFF 1st League by the end of the 2009-2010 season and the Super League in the 2011-2012 season. The Ege representative competed in the Super League for seven consecutive seasons, winning the Turkey Cup and the TFF Super Cup once each, and participated in the UEFA Europa League in the 2018-2019 season.

Relegated from the Super League in the 2018-2019 season, Akhisarspor was eliminated by Fatih Karagumruk in the semi-finals of the 1st League playoffs in the 2019-2020 season and did not reach the final. The Manisa representative dropped from TFF 1st League in 2020-2021, bid farewell to TFF 2nd League in 2021-2022, and this season could not hold on in TFF 3rd League, resulting in relegation to the Regional Amateur League.
