Amad Diallo sends message to Ruben Amorim ahead of Man Utd arrival
- Amad scored twice to help Man Utd record first Europa League win of 2024/25
- Ivorian starting to establish himself as a regular fixture in Red Devils side
- Ruben Amorim due to start work as head coach on Monday
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo says he can’t wait to start working with new head coach Ruben Amorim and wants to “make history” in a lengthy career at Old Trafford.
The Ivorian scored twice to help United’s interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy to a crucial victory over PAOK on Thursday, ending the club’s four-game wait for a win in the Europa League.
The Dutchman has been in temporary charge at United after the club’s hierarchy opted to dismiss Erik ten Hag following a dismal run of results. The Red Devils had won just four times out of 14 matches played in all competitions and are still languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Van Nistelrooy has overseen wins over PAOK and Leicester City, in the Carabao Cup, while also earning a point against Chelsea in his only Premier League game in charge.
Ruben Amorim starts work as United’s new head coach on Monday after agreeing to leave Portuguese giants Sporting CP, and Diallo admits he can’t wait to get cracking with the 39-year-old.
“I am excited to have him in this team and I can’t wait to work with him,” Diallo said of United’s incoming boss after his match winning performance against PAOK. “Everyone is here to give his best, and sometimes it’s good. So today we have to enjoy together, and we are ready for the next step.
“I’m happy to be here, happy to play for this club, and yeah, I want to stay here for a long, long, long time to make history with this club.”
Amad had been in and out of United’s side under Ten Hag, competing for a place against the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony, but revealed his mindset is to always work hard and improve – something Van Nistelrooy admitted he was impressed by when he addressed the media.
“I always try to do my best, even when I am not starting,” Diallo said. “I’m every time focused, and everyone wants to play. We are here to play. And when you don’t play, you have to give your best.”
He could be in contention to start for United against Leicester City on Sunday, providing he shrugs off an ankle injury picked up in the latter stages of the game against PAOK.
