Former world No. 1 tennis star Andy Roddick is making his big screen debut in the new pickleball comedy, “The Dink.” With the sport experiencing a rapid surge in popularity, it’s now heading to Hollywood with an all-star cast that includes Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, and Ed Harris. The film will be produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, with Stiller himself taking on a supporting role, reminiscent of his involvement in the 2004 hit “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story.”
According to Variety, “The Dink” will center on Johnson, who plays a washed-up tennis pro struggling to save a club in crisis and win his father’s respect. In his journey to redemption, he must confront a past vow and do the one thing he swore never to do: play pickleball. Roddick will star in a supporting role, with his tennis background adding authenticity to the story.
The Talent Behind the Scenes
Josh Greenbaum, known for his work on comedies, is set to direct the film, which is being produced in collaboration with Rivulet Films. Filming is scheduled to start this November in Los Angeles. The project has all the makings of a sports-comedy hit, especially with Stiller involved both in front of and behind the camera.
The Hollywood Spotlight on Pickleball
“The Dink” is the latest indication of pickleball’s growing presence in mainstream culture. With its rising popularity as a fast-paced, accessible sport, it’s no surprise that Hollywood is taking notice. Roddick’s transition from tennis courts to the silver screen will undoubtedly draw interest from sports fans and moviegoers alike.
