Arne Slot: ‘I Knew From a Young Age I’d Be a Manager’

While admitting that he doesn’t really “look up” to other coaches, Liverpool manager Arne Slot said that his route to management was obvious from an early age.

Even in his playing days, the former Feyenoord manager offered insights into his early experiences that suggested a career in management. He talked about taking up his father’s amateur club coaching duties and starting to coach kids teams at a young age.

What was said by Slot

“When I was quite young, I trained under-sevens, under-eights, and under-nines from my former amateur club.” Slot said in an interview with TNT Sports. In addition to managing amateur teams, my father was employed by a school. He was a teacher, and one benefit of teaching is that you get to take a lot of holidays.

“Can you replace me as a manager at my amateur club? I was doing these types of things at the age of 21, 22, and I’m sure that all of my club teammates would have said they weren’t shocked that I became a manager. Thus, most likely from a very young age.”

The 46-year-old Slot highlighted that while he appreciates a lot of coaches, he doesn’t worship any of them, showing that he is more concerned with his own distinct managing route than he is with elevating others.
