Florian Wirtz marked his Champions League debut in style, scoring twice as Bayer Leverkusen secured a dominant victory over Feyenoord. The German champions took an early lead in the 5th minute when Wirtz expertly placed the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Leverkusen’s Dominant First Half
Leverkusen’s second goal came through a combination of their wing-backs, as Jeremie Frimpong’s cross found Alex Grimaldo, who made no mistake in finishing. Frimpong then assisted again, this time picking out Wirtz, who volleyed in his second goal of the night.
The German side sealed the win before half-time when Edmond Tapsoba’s header led to an own goal by Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
Clinical Performance from Bayer Leverkusen
Despite having fewer shots than Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen’s clinical finishing ensured a comfortable victory. This defeat marked Feyenoord’s first loss since Danish manager Brian Priske took charge, following the departure of Arne Slot to Liverpool.
