Colapinto: ‘I Hope I Have Shown That I Deserve the Williams Seat’

Franco Colapinto believes his performance at the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he secured a points finish, demonstrates that he is worthy of a permanent place at Williams following Logan Sargeant’s early departure. Colapinto qualified in Q3 and finished eighth in the race, scoring four points—something Sargeant had struggled to achieve during his time with the team.

Colapinto passed Haas driver Nico Hulkenberg to claim 10th place before moving up two spots due to crashes involving Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez. Speaking to Motorsport.com after the race, Colapinto expressed his gratitude for the opportunity.

“They trusted me too much by giving me a seat,” he said. “They showed a lot of trust and confidence in me. People couldn’t make sense of this decision, but I hope I’ve shown what I can do and that I deserve a seat in Formula 1.”

Colapinto also thanked Williams team principal James Vowles for the opportunity. “I’m working hard to learn quickly, and scoring points in my second race with so few kilometres is really positive,” he added. “We’ve done a great job as a team, moved Williams up in the championship, and I’m very happy with the result. We need to keep working for the future.”
