Last Decision: Thomas Tuchel Is the “Strongest Candidate”

The English Football Association is in talks with Thomas Tuchel for the national team head coach position. The German coach is considered the most serious candidate for this role.

Following the departure of Gareth Southgate after EURO 2024, a new head coach for England could be announced soon.

According to a report by Sky Sports, the English Football Association has recently held discussions with Thomas Tuchel, who previously managed Bayern Munich, and he is regarded as the strongest candidate for the position. Tuchel left his role at Bayern Munich at the end of last season.

MANY NAMES HAVE BEEN MENTIONED

After Gareth Southgate’s departure, names such as Pep Guardiola, Jürgen Klopp, Graham Potter, and Eddie Howe have been considered for the England national team.

In a statement from the English Football Association, it was indicated that a decision on the new head coach will be made by the end of the year, with Lee Carsley currently managing the U21 team expected to take over temporarily.

Tuchel is currently the strongest candidate for England, and if negotiations proceed positively, an official announcement could be made shortly.

If appointed, Thomas Tuchel would become the third foreign manager to lead the England national team, following Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

Gareth Southgate resigned after England was defeated by Spain in the final of the UEFA Euro 2024, hosted by Germany.

Having managed the England national team for eight years, Southgate led the team to the final of the European Championship twice but could not advance beyond the semifinals in the World Cup.
