Marques: Alonso is a better driver than Senna and Schumacher

Tarso Marques, Fernando Alonso’s teammate in his first F1 season at Minardi, believes the two-time world champion is a better driver than Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna.Fernando Alonso is among the best in Formula 1 as a two-time world champion.

Tarso Marques was Alonso’s teammate when he first came to Formula One at Minardi in 2001. 

“Like all Brazilians, I am a fan of Ayrton Senna,” Marques told Spanish publication Marca.

“Alongside Senna, there are recent legends like Michael Schumacher , Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen .”

“It’s very difficult to compare drivers from different eras, but I think Fernando is just as good, if not better.”

“If I had to choose a driver for my team, I would choose Fernando. I think he was better than Schumacher when they raced against each other and I would say he was better than Senna, even if the Brazilians were angry.”

“Senna was incredible, he had natural talent but the truth is he made more mistakes than Fernando.”

“Fernando is probably the best, together with Hamilton. I think Fernando should be at his level in terms of the number of titles, but he didn’t have the right car most of the time. 

“I think he deserves more titles than he has. Those two world titles are great but they don’t reflect his talent. He should have much more than that,” he commented.
