Napoli Sporting Director Praises Scott McTominay Signing

Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has expressed his satisfaction with the club’s acquisition of Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer. The Scotland international, who was regarded as one of United’s most valuable assets, had drawn interest from clubs such as Spurs, Brighton, Everton, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce. Fulham had even emerged as the front-runners, submitting three bids for the midfielder.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Fulham withdrew from the race on the same day they met United’s asking price, opting instead to sign Sander Berge from Burnley. This opened the door for Napoli, who stepped in and agreed to United’s £25 million valuation for McTominay.

Speaking to Radio CRC, Manna revealed how McTominay’s desire to join Napoli played a crucial role in sealing the deal. “First of all, I have to say that McTominay strongly wanted to come to Napoli. That was really satisfying,” Manna commented.

He added, “If a player who plays in the Premier League for Manchester United chooses to come to Naples, we should all be proud. Initially, I didn’t think we could get to the point of closing the deal despite the contact that had been made with the agent at the start of the transfer window. Along the way, we continued to maintain these relationships until the moment we sat down with Manchester United and realised that the operation could be done.”

McTominay’s move to Serie A marks a significant chapter in his career, and Napoli are optimistic about the impact he will have at the club.
