Norris stated that it was a “surprise” for him to narrowly get the pole position from the Q1 he was struggling with and added:
“A lot happened today, but I’m really very, very happy. I was having a hard time at the beginning of the qualifying rounds. I had a lot to do and I didn’t feel comfortable at all, so finishing in pole position…”“I worked hard on it during the souring rounds. I had a lot of areas to improve and that’s exactly what I did. Being in pole position was still a bit of a surprise, but I had a good round. I finally felt good. It’s a good result for us.”
“It was more challenging than it looked on TV. You always try to catch small differences. You have seen how many people go off the track, hit and have been locked. It was pretty easy to get involved in the accident, hit the wall, or do something that wouldn’t even participate in the race. Today, achieving risk-return balance was not easy because of my situation in Q1.”
“That’s why I’m happy. After something like this, completing the qualifying rounds was relaxing.”
“Now we look ahead. There are quick names in the back. George took a nice tour and Yuki was very fast on the wet floor all day. It is never easy under these conditions. What I want to do is not always the easiest.”
“We will prepare well. I hope we can have a good race, it would be a good start. We’ll see what we can do.”
