Nwakaeme’s Goal Drought at Trabzonspor Continues: 896 Days Without Scoring
Anthony Nwakaeme, who returned to Trabzonspor this season after a two-year stint, has not found the net since his comeback, leaving him without a goal for 896 days. In his first spell with the club, Nwakaeme scored 47 goals in 145 matches, but his second tenure has been marred by injuries and a lack of form.
Ahead of Trabzonspor’s match against Fenerbahse in the 11th week of Trendyol Super Lig, Nwakaeme has played only 360 minutes across 9 official matches this season and has not managed to score. If he does score against Fenerbahce, it will mark his first goal in a Trabzonspor jersey in nearly two and a half years.
During his previous four seasons at Trabzonspor, Nwakaeme established himself as a key player, contributing significantly with goals and assists. However, in this current season, he has struggled to replicate that success and has faced two injury setbacks, which have kept him off the pitch for extended periods.
Nwakaeme made his return to action last week in the match against Goztepe, where he played in the second half. He is expected to feature again in the upcoming game against Fenerbahce.
The last time Nwakaeme scored for Trabzonspor was on May 22, 2022, during the final match of the season against Basaksehir. His only contribution this season came from an assist in the 2-2 draw against Bellona Kayserispor.
Nwakaeme has previously scored against Fenerbahce, netting his only goal against them during the 2021-2022 season in a 1-1 draw in Istanbul.
Season Performance Summary
Nwakaeme was transferred to Trabzonspor from Hapoel Beer Sheva at the beginning of the 2018-2019 season for a fee of €1.1 million. His goal tally in his initial seasons at the club included 11 goals in 31 matches in his first season, 14 goals in 43 matches in the 2019-2020 season, 7 goals in 35 matches in 2020-2021, and 15 goals in 36 matches in the 2021-2022 season. After a stint at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Fayha, he returned to Trabzonspor this season but has yet to hit the back of the net.
