Phallon Tullis-Joyce Ready to Shine as Manchester United’s New No. 1

Phallon Tullis-Joyce is stepping into some big shoes at Manchester United, replacing England’s star goalkeeper, Mary Earps, who moved to Paris St-Germain this summer. Earps had been United’s first-choice keeper since 2019, earning global recognition during her time with the club. Twice voted the Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper, Earps won the European Championship with England and claimed the Women’s Super League (WSL) Golden Glove in 2023. Her influence was so immense that she became the first female footballer to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds and is honored with a mosaic outside Old Trafford.

Now, it’s Tullis-Joyce’s turn to take the spotlight, and Manchester United manager Marc Skinner believes she’s more than ready for the challenge. “Phallon is the best shot-stopper I have ever worked with in my life,” Skinner said. “She’s an incredible footballer and an incredibly intelligent human. I’m excited to show what she can bring to this team. She’s a big-time goalkeeper—exactly why I brought her here.”

Tullis-Joyce, who joined United in 2023, brings a wealth of experience from her time as a starter for Reims and Seattle Reign. Her arrival was met with enthusiasm, but she saw limited game time last season, making just four appearances in the Women’s League Cup group stage, where she kept two clean sheets.

Despite the limited minutes, Tullis-Joyce remained focused on her development. “I didn’t have much game time last season, but I’ve been the starting goalkeeper for big teams,” she said. “I respect the decisions of the coaching staff, and they were very transparent about my role. I always felt like I was being prepared, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I had, even if they were behind the scenes.”

As she takes over from one of the best, Tullis-Joyce will be eager to make her mark at United and prove she’s more than ready for the big stage.
