PIRELLI SATISFIED WITH TIRE TEST RESULTS IN MEXICO

Pirelli Chief Engineer Simone Berra stated that they received positive results from the 2025 tire test conducted during the second practice of the Mexican Grand Prix.

The first test of Pirelli tires for the 2025 season took place during the second free practice session of the Mexican Grand Prix. Teams and drivers had the opportunity to test Pirelli’s new tire prototypes over a duration of 90 minutes.

Drivers participating in the first practice session were required to be on track for the entire duration of the test, while some rookie drivers who did not participate in the first session were given an extra 30 minutes to collect data. Following the test, Pirelli noted that there were no significant surprises beyond what was expected. However, factors such as George Russell’s crash made data collection challenging.

Despite this, the data obtained from the test showed a significant improvement in track performance compared to current conditions. Simone Berra commented, “There were no significant surprises beyond our expectations in Mexico. Almost no tire wear was observed in the first session, which is a positive sign compared to past race weekends in Mexico.”

“We can say that the new compounds are mechanically more durable than the current ones and may reduce the problem of fragmentation. We observed promising developments in terms of performance and wear for the C4 compounds. For the C5 compounds, we found solutions to keep tire wear under control.”

“Additionally, one of the C6 options appears to be superior, and we will need to evaluate how it will be positioned alongside the C5 in the 2025 series,” he added.
