Roger Grimau in talks with Romanian club
Coming off a title-less season with FC Barcelona, Roger Grimau could bounce back at Dinamo Bucharest according to Romanian media GSP.
To limit its huge hole in the coffers, FC Barcelona had drastically reduced expenses during the 2023-2024 season. Sarunas Jasikevicius was then replaced by Grimau, previously coach of the Catalan Espoirs and winner of the Euroleague with Barca as a player in 2010.
However, the Catalan coach only remained in office for one season, as he was replaced by Joan Pennaroya last summer.
Looking for a new position, the 45-year-old tactician is currently in talks with Dinamo Bucharest, the most successful club in Romania (22 times champio) but which has not lifted the domestic title since 2003. He would replace Serbian coach Dragan Nikolic, who has started the season slow. Dinamo are placed 7th in the Romanian league with a 3-4 record.
“Nothing is signed yet, but it’s true that Roger Grimau is one of our options. Even though he hasn’t been coaching for very long, he had a full season in the EuroLeague with Barcelona,” Alexandru Iacobescu, manager of Dinamo Bucharest, told GSP.
“We know his agent, we have a good relationship with him and we decided to try this path. These are only preliminary discussions at this point. We’ll see exactly what happens in the next two days when he’s in Romania. We’ll see if we can reach an agreement,” he added.
