“Maybe people will say, ‘Oh, come on,’ but…”
Head coach Servet Cetin commented on Galatasaray. He praised Davinson Sanchez and made striking statements about the successful player.
Cetin, who played for both Fenerbahce and Galatasaray during his career, analyzed the Yellow-Red team on Ajansspor. He noted that having fast players in the forward line is the biggest difference between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, stating, “Galatasaray solved the match with its three fast and strong players in the forward line during the derby.”
The young coach mentioned that Davinson Sanchez and Lucas Torreira play key roles in team defense. He suggested that Davinson Sanchez is a better center-back than Virgil van Dijk, saying, “In England, center-backs play regionally, staying in their positions. They constantly position themselves in the center. They generally play slowly. They cut off balls in the center due to their physicality, but they struggle when they have to open up.”
In contrast, Cetin noted that Davinson plays well both in one-on-one situations and in open spaces, stating, “Sanchez is a much better center-back than van Dijk. Maybe people will say, ‘Oh, come on,’ but it doesn’t matter if it’s Liverpool. For example, Sami Hyypia came to Turkey and was not appreciated. Therefore, Sanchez is better than many center-backs in the Premier League.”
Additionally, Servet Cetin stated that Galatasaray has a better chance of success in the UEFA Europa League compared to Fenerbahce and Besiktas.
Cetin also mentioned that his transfer to Marseille for 8.5 million euros during his time at Galatasaray almost happened but fell through at the last moment. He explained that the deal was disrupted due to the sudden death of Marseille’s owner. “I received offers from Germany and England as well, but taxes in Europe were very high at that time. Honestly, the money I was earning here was higher. That’s why I didn’t accept,” he said.
After completing his contract with Galatasaray, Cetin stated that he also received an offer from Besiktas, saying, “Besiktas offered 30% cash, with the rest as match fees. During that time, the offer from Eskişehirspor was better for me. Since I was in need of money, I made that choice.”
