Spurs ‘Need to Reinforce’ in January Transfer Window – Postecoglou

Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is in his second season at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has acknowledged that his team is “short in a couple of areas” and must “reinforce” during the January transfer window to address their struggles in the Premier League.

Spurs have suffered three defeats in their last four league matches, including a 6-3 loss to Liverpool on Sunday, leaving them 11th in the table. The poor run of form has coincided with injuries to key players, such as goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

January Transfers on the Horizon

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s upcoming clash against fourth-placed Nottingham Forest on 26 December, Postecoglou emphasized the importance of bringing in quality reinforcements during the January window.

“We’ve been planning. A lot of it was going to be around where we’re at around this time,” Postecoglou said. “Fair to say we’re still a little bit short in a couple of areas, and we need to reinforce.”

The Australian manager admitted that January is a challenging time to secure ideal signings but insisted that strengthening the squad remains a priority.
“You don’t just want to panic and bring in anybody that you don’t think will help our cause,” he added. “We are methodical and prudent about our work.”

Spurs’ Busy Fixture List

Despite their league struggles, Spurs have shown resilience in cup competitions. They advanced to the Carabao Cup semi-finals after a thrilling 4-3 victory over Manchester United and remain in contention for the Europa League’s next phase. Additionally, they will face Tamworth in the FA Cup third round on 12 January.

Postecoglou stressed the importance of squad depth as their fixture list intensifies:
“It’s not like our schedule’s going to ease up. So I think it makes sense. We will try and reinforce.”

Postecoglou Defends Players and Tactics

Postecoglou defended his players amid growing scrutiny over Tottenham’s recent performances, saying:
“They are giving absolute maximum effort and are trying to do things the way I’m asking them to. So how can I be critical of that?”

The Spurs boss also addressed his reaction to media criticism last week, where he confronted a reporter over their questions about Tottenham’s defensive injuries.
“I wasn’t angry, but fair to say I am getting tired of the same questions over and over,” he said.
