Thomas Tuchel to Steer Clear of England’s November Squad Selections
Tuchel Set to Take Over in January, Allowing Carsley Full Control for Greece and Ireland Matches
Newly appointed England manager Thomas Tuchel will have no involvement in the national team’s final games of 2024, leaving interim boss Lee Carsley in charge of selections for the UEFA Nations League clashes against Greece and Ireland. Although Tuchel will officially start his role on January 1, 2025, he has decided to refrain from influencing Carsley’s choices or attending the World Cup 2026 qualifying draw in Zurich.
With two wins over Finland and a victory against the Republic of Ireland, Carsley’s tenure has been largely positive, and he aims to end on a high note. However, he faces selection challenges with several players facing injuries, including John Stones, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze, Kobbie Mainoo, and Jack Grealish. On the positive side, Chelsea captain Reece James has regained fitness, potentially earning a recall, while Newcastle’s Lewis Hall is also vying for a place in the squad.
As Carsley leads the team in November, all eyes will soon shift to Tuchel’s vision for England as he prepares to guide the Three Lions into 2025.
