WRX Turkiye day 1
Johan Kristoffersson started the first semi-final of 5 laps as the leader. However, towards the end of the first lap, the right door of the Swedish driver’s car was seen to be opened.
Kristoffersson, after progressing relatively slowly due to his problem, opened up the gap on the 4th lap and increased the gap to Timmy Hansen to 2 seconds.
After all drivers entered the wildcard stage, Kristoffersson was in the lead and Ole Christian Veiby was second, but after a few seconds, his teammates swapped places.
Veiby moved up the order to lead, while Kristoffersson crossed the line in second place.
Timmy Hansen finished third, Juha Rytkonen fourth and Steven Bossard fifth.
WRX Turkiye 2nd semi-final
As soon as the second semi-final started, Patrick O’donovan spun.
Despite the pressure in the final laps, Kevin Hansen was the first to cross the chequered flag.
Gronholm settled into second place, with O’donovan third and Andersson fourth.
WRX Turkiye Final
The 5-lap final started and Veiby took the lead from the front line with Kevin Hansen. Kristoffersson followed the first two in 3rd place despite sustaining damage from contact with the barriers.
On lap 3, Kristoffersson made an attack on Kevin Hansen and the two made contact, dropping him behind Gronholm in 4th place.
Kristofferson was penalized at the end for moving up to second place by forgetting to enter the joker on the last lap.
Veiby, who has the most podiums without a win in the history of the WRX Championship, took the first victory of his career in Istanbul, the 9th leg of the championship.
While Veiby finished the day as the leader, Gronholm, Kevin Hansen, Timmy Hansen and O’donovan were the pilots who made up the top 5, respectively.
