Fenerbahce Beko Wins the Turkish Derby in THY EuroLeague
In the second round of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Fenerbahce Beko defeated Anadolu Efes 83-78 away from home. With this result, Fenerbahce secured their second win of the season, while Anadolu Efes suffered their first loss.
The game, played at the Basketball Development Center, began with both teams trading baskets. Anadolu Efes found success inside the paint, while Fenerbahce Beko hit six three-pointers. With Colson scoring 14 points in the first quarter, Fenerbahce led 27-21.
Continuing their dominance in the second quarter, Fenerbahce extended the lead to double digits in the 12th minute: 31-21. Fenerbahce capitalized on Anadolu Efes’ struggles from beyond the arc and extended the lead to 15 points by the 15th minute: 38-23. Despite Anadolu Efes reducing the gap to single digits towards the end, Fenerbahce went into halftime leading 46-37.
Fenerbahce opened the third quarter with a flurry of three-pointers, pushing the lead back to 15 points in the 22nd minute: 52-37. Anadolu Efes, led by Bryant’s scoring, narrowed the gap to 8 points by the 27th minute: 56-48. Fenerbahce entered the final quarter ahead 60-51.
In the fourth quarter, Fenerbahce once again built a 14-point lead in the 33rd minute: 68-54. Anadolu Efes, with contributions from Nwora and Oturu, prevented Fenerbahce from extending the lead further. By the 36th minute, Fenerbahce held a 74-63 advantage. The final minutes were filled with excitement as Anadolu Efes went on an 11-0 run, tying the game at 74-74 in the 39th minute. However, Fenerbahce’s crucial three-pointers in the closing moments secured them an 83-78 victory.
- Biberovic and Bryant Ejected
Tensions rose in the third quarter, leading to the ejection of Tarık Biberovic and Elijah Bryant.
The incident occurred in the 29th minute after Biberovic made a layup and fell to the ground under the basket. Bryant also lost his balance and fell. A physical altercation ensued after Biberovic’s reaction, which led to both players exchanging contact. The situation was diffused by teammates and referees.
After reviewing the incident on the monitor, the referees decided to eject both Biberovic and Bryant from the game.
