FIA Takes Action Amid Suspicions of Changes in Parc Ferme

In Formula 1, the FIA has implemented new measures at the US Grand Prix due to increasing suspicions that some teams have been able to adjust their car heights under parc ferme conditions.

A technical controversy has erupted in Formula 1 ahead of the United States Grand Prix. The FIA acted upon rising concerns regarding a potential trick to adjust the front wing (T-Ray) height of cars while in parc ferme conditions.

In recent weeks, discussions have taken place between several teams and the FIA regarding this issue. Concerns have been raised that one team has gained an aerodynamic advantage by adjusting the front wing height between qualifying and the race.

Such an adjustment can provide a lower ride height during low-fuel qualifying runs, while optimizing ride height for heavier cars in the race, potentially offering a significant advantage. However, according to Formula 1’s technical regulations, it is prohibited to make changes to aerodynamic configurations, including front wing height, under parc ferme conditions. Only adjustments to the front wing settings are allowed, and any modifications to the car must be detectable through a physical inspection.

Despite the lack of definitive evidence that a team may have violated these rules, the FIA has decided to tighten front wing checks for the race this weekend in Austin. As part of this effort, new sealing procedures will be implemented to detect potential changes to front wing adjustments.
