FIFA’s New Move: Extra Transfer Window

FIFA is planning to introduce an additional transfer window in 2025 to stimulate transfer activity for the Club World Cup and to allow contract extensions during the tournament.

According to a report by Marca, FIFA is considering implementing a short-term extra transfer window starting next year. This new window is expected to take place from June 1-10, and its purpose is to facilitate transfer activity specifically for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Additionally, this move is aimed at resolving issues surrounding contracts that may expire during the tournament. If implemented, clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup would be able to take advantage of this extra transfer window.

New Format for the Club World Cup

Starting in 2025, the FIFA Club World Cup will feature a new format with 32 teams. The tournament will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13, 2025.

The new format will consist of 32 teams from 6 confederations, divided into 8 groups of 4 teams each. Teams will play each other in single matches, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout rounds, which will also be decided by single matches. Notably, there will be no third-place playoff in this format.
