Formula 1 Decision: Changes to Points System in the New Season

It has been announced that starting from the 2025 season, the rule awarding an extra point to the driver who sets the fastest lap during races will be abolished.

As the 2024 season of Formula 1 enters its final phase, some changes for the upcoming season have been announced.

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has stated that starting next season, the extra point awarded to the driver who sets the fastest lap during races will be canceled.

The rule, which was first implemented in 2019, awarded an extra point to one of the top 10 finishers if they set the fastest lap in the race.

Additionally, the requirement for teams to field their young drivers at least once during free practice sessions has been increased to two times.

NEXT STOP: USA

The Formula 1 season will continue this week in the United States.

As the season approaches its final six races, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen is in first place. McLaren’s Lando Norris follows the three-time reigning champion by 52 points.

The first practice sessions and sprint qualifying for the Formula 1 US Grand Prix, hosted by Austin, will take place today, with the sprint race scheduled for tomorrow.

After the qualifying sessions on Saturday night, the US Grand Prix will begin on October 20, Sunday, at 22:00 TRT.
