Arsenal icon Alex Scott MBE has been named as one of the four newest inductees into the Women’s Super League (WSL) Hall of Fame, further cementing her legacy in the world of football. The announcement was made by the Women’s Professional Leagues and their lead partner Barclays, with the inductees chosen by a selection panel that included former players, coaches, officials, and journalists.
Scott’s illustrious career spanned 12 years at Arsenal, where she became a beloved figure for fans and teammates alike. Over her three separate spells with the Gunners between 2002 and 2018, Scott helped the club secure an incredible 21 trophies, including the 2007 UEFA Women’s Champions League (then known as the UEFA Women’s Cup), where she scored the winning goal in the final—a moment that will forever be etched in Arsenal’s history.
Beyond her domestic success, Scott also made her mark internationally. She spent time in the United States playing for the Boston Breakers (2009-2011) and represented Birmingham City in 2004-2005. In 2012, she won the WSL title and added five Women’s Premier League titles to her list of achievements before the current league format began in 2011.
On the international stage, Scott earned 140 caps for England between 2004 and 2017, establishing herself as a cornerstone of the national team’s defense. Since retiring from playing, Scott has made a seamless transition into broadcasting, becoming a prominent figure on BBC, where she regularly covers both the men’s and women’s football. Her pioneering work continues, as she became the first female presenter on Sky Sports Super Sunday and the first female commentator at a FIFA Men’s World Cup.
As a broadcaster, Scott continues to inspire future generations of women in football, reminding them that there is always a place for them in the sport. She will join fellow inductees, including Steph Houghton, Gill Flaherty, and Rebecca Welch, at an official induction event in January 2025, marking yet another milestone in her remarkable career.
