Despite Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) intense interest, Barcelona president Joan Laporta disclosed that the team declined a record-breaking €250 million offer for adolescent wonder Lamine Yamal.
PSG reportedly wanted to offer €250 million (£211 million/$277 million) for Yamal ahead of the 2024 summer transfer season in order to replace Kylian Mbappe, who had transferred to Real Madrid. Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, turned down the offer because she thought Yamal had what it took to become one of the game’s biggest players.
Yamal’s Faith in Laporta
Laporta outlined his reasoning for turning down the massive offer in an interview with Barca One, highlighting Yamal’s importance to the team:
“They wanted to acquire Lamine from me for €250 million, but I said no six months ago. The world’s most well-liked player is him.”
Laporta went on to emphasize Yamal’s unparalleled potential by asking, “What is Lamine’s true worth? Apparently, the book value does not account for that.”
Supporting Barcelona’s Future for Yamal
Barcelona’s long-term plans for the 17-year-old are reflected in Laporta’s decision to decline the offer, as the president is certain that Yamal will continue to make history at Camp Nou. The youthful striker has already established himself as one of the best players in the world of football by making waves in La Liga and internationally.
