Christian Horner Likens Adrian Newey’s Departure from Red Bull to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Move from Manchester United

Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner reflected on Adrian Newey’s departure from the team, affirming that Red Bull’s success will continue due to its strong foundation. Horner acknowledged that they had long prepared for the possibility of Newey leaving, ensuring the team could sustain its achievements.

“We knew that if Adrian decided to leave one day, we had to make sure we could take over and continue,” Horner said. “The motivation he felt when he decided to go to Aston Martin was evident. We send him our best wishes and will always remember our time with him with great fondness.”

Horner compared Newey’s exit to Eric Cantona’s departure from Manchester United, saying: “Life goes on. We have a great team, great strength, and depth. Manchester United didn’t stop winning when Eric Cantona left. Everything needs to evolve.”

When Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz reminded Horner that Cantona had retired, Horner quickly shifted the analogy to Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2009 move to Real Madrid, quipping, “OK, Ronaldo. I’m not an expert in football.”
