Cristiano Ronaldo Slams Erik ten Hag

Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo made scathing comments about Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo discussed his former club on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast

Criticized Erik ten Hag

Said the club needs a complete rebuild

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Ronaldo criticized Ten Hag for a lack of ambition and claimed that the Dutchman was undermining Manchester United. The Al-Nassr forward also suggested that if Ten Hag wants to improve the club’s outlook and save his job, he should listen to his assistant, Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Despite his bitter departure in 2022, Ronaldo told Ferdinand that he “still loves” Manchester United. However, it is clear that Ronaldo is disappointed with the current state of the club. In the interview, he called for a major “rebuild” project and had some harsh words for the man in charge.

WHAT DID RONALDO SAY?

Ronaldo said, “As I told you, I think Manchester United needs to rebuild everything.” Criticizing Ten Hag’s attitude, Ronaldo added, “The coach says they can’t compete to win the league or the Champions League. As the Manchester United manager, you can’t say you won’t compete to win the league or the Champions League. If Ten Hag listens to Ruud, maybe it can help him because Ruud knows the club, and the club should listen to what’s happening there.”

“You [Rio] or Roy Keane or Paul Scholes or Gary Neville, whatever, you can’t rebuild a club like Sir Alex Ferguson without knowledge. Not the men in the office, they don’t understand. People who understand football, 99% were in the dressing room. They know how to deal with players. They are people who understand these things. That’s why I believe Ruud can help because he was inside the club. He knows the club. He knows the fans. If the coach listens to him, I think they can improve the club a bit.”

WHAT’S NEXT FOR TEN HAG?

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is unlikely to pay much attention to Ronaldo’s comments, focusing instead on reversing his team’s poor start to the new season. With the upcoming match against Southampton being described as a “must-win,” there is a view that the Dutchman won’t be able to defend himself against further criticism if there is another point loss.
