Fenerbahçe Eyes Atlético Madrid’s Mario Hermoso for Defensive Reinforcement

Fenerbahçe continues its search for a left-footed center-back and has added Mario Hermoso, recently departed from Atlético Madrid, to its shortlist. The Spanish defender is also on Galatasaray’s radar.

According to a report by Sabah, Fenerbahçe has initiated contact for Hermoso following head coach Jose Mourinho’s request for a left-footed central defender. The 29-year-old player began his football career in Real Madrid’s academy and has not played outside Spain. Hermoso, who played for Atlético Madrid from 2019 to 2024, is now a free agent this summer. Fenerbahçe aims to meet Hermoso’s demand for a €5 million annual salary and signing fee to compete with Galatasaray in the transfer race.

Hermoso Attracts Multiple Suitors

With 185 La Liga appearances and a total of 304 professional matches, where he scored 15 goals and provided 12 assists, Hermoso has a wealth of experience. He has also earned 5 caps for the Spanish national team. Last season, he made 45 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side, starting in 42 of them. The defender is attracting interest from clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia.

If Fenerbahçe successfully secures Hermoso, Rodrigo Becao is expected to return to Italy, while Samet Akaydin could also part ways with the club. Additionally, Serdar Aziz, previously deemed surplus to requirements, is likely to finalize a move away from Fenerbahçe shortly.
