Serious accusations have been made against football star Wissam Ben Yedder (34). The French forward (currently a free agent) is due to appear in court on October 15th, facing charges of attempted rape.
According to the French newspaper “L’Équipe,” the alleged incident occurred last weekend in the Alpes-Maritimes region. Ben Yedder reportedly attempted to sexually assault a young woman in his car during the night from Friday to Saturday.
The former Monaco player (2019-2024, 118 goals in 201 official matches) was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident and was arrested by police around 3 a.m. Ben Yedder, who has played 19 international matches for France, was released on Sunday. The prosecution’s request for pre-trial detention was initially denied, but an appeal was filed against this decision on Monday.
Prosecutor Damien Martinelli told “L’Équipe,” “Pre-trial detention seems to be the only way to avoid any risk of pressure on the victim or witnesses… and to ensure continued custody.”
Ben Yedder is scheduled to appear in court on October 15th, with the charge being “sexual assault in a state of obvious intoxication.”
Currently, the former international player (19 matches, 3 goals) is under strict judicial supervision. He is prohibited from going out between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., visiting bars or nightclubs, and contacting the victim.
It’s clear this is not the first time Ben Yedder has faced legal trouble. Since the summer of 2023, he has been charged with rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault in connection with another incident in southern France. He spent 48 hours in custody back then, and a bail of approximately €900,000 was posted.
