Former National Basketball Player Asım Pars Passes Away at 48

Former Turkish national basketball player Asım Pars has tragically passed away at the age of 48. The Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) expressed their condolences, stating, “As the Turkish Basketball Federation, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased and to the basketball community.”

Asım Pars, a Bosnian-born Turkish player, was found dead in his home in the northeastern Bosnian city of Kalesija. Local police confirmed the discovery of his body, and medical teams arriving at the scene verified his death.

Born in 1976, Pars began his basketball career in 1992 with Sloboda, a team in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the 1992-1995 war in Bosnia, Pars moved to Turkey, where he went on to play for several top basketball clubs, including Galatasaray, Tuborg Pilsener, Ülkerspor, TOFAŞ, Fenerbahçe, Efes Pilsen, Pınar Karşıyaka, Türk Telekom, Mersin Büyükşehir Belediye, and Erdemirspor.

Notably, Asım Pars was a member of the Turkish National Team that finished second in the 2001 European Basketball Championship.

The Turkish Basketball Federation shared a heartfelt message following Asım Pars’ passing: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former national basketball player Asım Pars. As the Turkish Basketball Federation, we pray for Allah’s mercy on the deceased and extend our condolences to his family and the basketball community.”
