Former NBA No. 1 Pick: “I’m Not a Jordan Fan, That SOB Slapped Me”

Kwame Brown, the first overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft, recently spoke about his former teammate Michael Jordan.

The Washington Wizards selected Kwame Brown with the No. 1 pick in the 2001 NBA Draft. However, Brown had an underwhelming NBA career and is now considered one of the biggest busts in NBA history.

In a recent appearance on the Swish Cultures podcast, the 42-year-old Brown opened up about his time with Michael Jordan.

Although Brown doesn’t consider himself a fan of Jordan, he still respects his work ethic:

“I’m not a Jordan fan, that SOB slapped me in the back of my head one time. So, there’s no reason for me to be a fan of him. But I did see how hard he worked and how dedicated he was to basketball. That old black man, even at 39 years old, was waking up early and grinding. He never cheated his talent. He was gambling all night, but still, at five in the morning, he’d be up lifting weights. He was a machine. When I saw him lifting weights after gambling all night, I couldn’t believe it. And he did that every morning. He never betrayed the game of basketball.”

Kwame Brown played for the Washington Wizards from 2001 to 2005 before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
