Gary Neville Criticizes Arsenal’s Failure to Win with 10 Men
According to Gary Neville, if Arsenal wants to contend for the Premier League crown, they should be able to win games even when they are down to ten men. After William Saliba was sent off in the 30th minute of Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Bournemouth, Neville underlined that the Gunners must demonstrate the quality to overcome such losses.
The Manchester United great brought attention to Arsenal’s previous troubles when reduced to ten men during an interview with the Gary Neville Podcast. He mentioned their 2-2 draw with Manchester City earlier in the season as well as their losses to Brighton and Bournemouth. Neville maintained that despite these challenging conditions, Mikel Arteta’s team should still strive for three points because to their potential.
Neville remarked:
“If you go down to 10 men, you’ve got to still go and win. I believe you may feel some pity after the City game, but they should go and win those games against Brighton and Bournemouth. They cannot lose those matches, so they must go and win them.”
Missed Opportunities for Arsenal
Neville’s remarks reveal his dissatisfaction with Arsenal’s failure to leverage their talent despite hardship. “That’s the most disappointing thing.” he continued. “They’ve not gone and won the game against Brighton and Bournemouth, and I think they should be with the quality they have.”
Neville thinks that if Arsenal wants to contend for the Premier League, they must cultivate a mindset that enables them to win games, even when they are down a player.
