Horner: “We Made the RB20 Too Complex”

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that the team needs to “simplify some things” in order to regain its competitive edge with the RB20. According to Horner, there is a “disconnect” between the front and rear of the car, which has made it increasingly difficult to balance.

Additionally, the lack of correlation between wind tunnel data and on-track performance has put the team in a development deadlock.

Horner elaborated on the issue, saying, “There’s a balance problem with the car, which is putting our drivers in a tough spot during corner entry.”

“The front and rear of the car aren’t working in harmony, which results in understeer on corner entry, and over the long term, this leads to increased tire degradation.”

“If you look at McLaren, their car seems like an evolution of last year’s design—much simpler than ours.”

“However, we’ve made the RB20 overly complex, and just like McLaren, we need to simplify things,” Horner concluded.
