Fernandes promises to step up his game as the goal drought persists.

After a difficult start to the new season, Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, has acknowledged that he needs to do better. The midfield player, who is presently on international duty with Portugal, talked about the difficult few weeks that United had, which included getting sent off in back-to-back games. After receiving two yellow cards in the Europa League match against Porto, he was given a straight red card against Tottenham, which was later overturned.

This season, Fernandes’ play has also suffered; in seven Premier League games, the 30-year-old has only provided one assist. He has promised, nevertheless, to get better under boss Erik ten Hag when he returns to Manchester United.

What Bruno Fernandes Said

Speaking to O Jogo, Fernandes said: “When I spoke about the bad moment, it was in relation to the two send-offs in the same week, which I thought were unfair. The first was withdrawn, and the second, being a yellow card, wasn’t, but these things happen in football. I took responsibility, especially against Tottenham, as I left my teammates with one less player while chasing a result.”

He continued: “At the national team, I feel good and enjoy my football due to the quality around me. But at the club, I know I need to improve when I return. The goals will come, and I take responsibility for maintaining the high standard I’ve set over the years. I hope to score as soon as I get back to help the club return to winning ways.”
