International Dominance and a Record-setting Match

Hideki Matsuyama and Sungjae Im defeating Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele 7 and 6 ties the tournament record for the shortest ever match—a feat last accomplished in 2011. The first foursomes of the day set the tone. The Internationals’ aggressive play carried through all five games, reversing the momentum and revitalizing the rivalry.

After a demanding Day 1, International Team captain Mike Weir acknowledged his delight with his guys’ tenacity and composure. “Although the game is one of nerves and controlling them, I was confident in our guys,” Weir remarked. “I’m simply thrilled for the lads, really proud of them. It disappointed me to play that well yesterday and not have any points on the board. Therefore, it makes one glad to witness their diligence and consistency in staying in there. Simply so glad of them.

Now wide open as both sides enter the last two days of competition, the Presidents Cup offers everything to play for.
