Panathinaikos star Kostas Sloukas made bold statements in a recent interview.
Earlier this summer, Panathinaikos head coach Ergin Ataman sent a message to NBA champions Boston Celtics, criticizing their use of the title “world champions.” Ataman challenged the Celtics, saying, “If you’re so confident, come and beat us at OAKA.”
In an interview with Greek State Television (ERT), Sloukas commented on his coach’s statement, echoing the sentiment.
Sloukas emphasized that for the Celtics to truly call themselves “world champions,” they would first have to defeat Panathinaikos:
“If the Boston Celtics come to OAKA, we can beat them. As Coach Ataman said, if they want to call themselves ‘world champions,’ they first need to beat us.”
