Kun Agüero’s KRÜ Takes on Padel
Argentinian esports organization KRÜ Esports, founded by former football star Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero, is branching out into traditional sports with the launch of a new padel team. KRÜ Padel will compete in the Hexagon Cup, a tournament featuring teams led by sports and entertainment celebrities.
KRÜ’s team will be joining an impressive lineup in the Hexagon Cup, with squads led by tennis legends Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray, Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski, and actress Eva Longoria. The tournament follows a format similar to the Kings League—a successful seven-a-side football league with teams led by notable figures like Ibai Llanos, Iker Casillas, and Agüero himself.
Collaboration and Team Lineup
KRÜ’s expansion into padel is the result of a collaboration with Taktika Pádel, an established organization operating in the U.S. and Mexico. This venture is further supported by the Business Padel Tour, which promotes the sport at a business level in Spain.
The team will be spearheaded by Argentine player Federico Chingotto, currently ranked fourth worldwide, who will serve as the franchise player and captain. Claudia Jensen will join him on the court, while Maxi Sánchez will take on coaching duties.
KRÜ’s Growth Beyond Esports
Since its founding in 2020, KRÜ Esports has grown into one of the largest Spanish-speaking esports organizations, with teams in VALORANT, Rocket League, and Counter-Strike 2. With Lionel Messi joining as a co-owner last year, the organization continues to expand its reach both in esports and traditional sports.
On the creation of KRÜ Padel, Agüero expressed his enthusiasm: “We are very excited to expand KRÜ towards a sport as dynamic as padel, and even more so to do so with Taktika Pádel. Hexagon is a platform that is taking this sport to another level, and we are here to compete and give our best.”
