Lewandowski strike maintains leaders Barcelona’s perfect start

Robert Lewandowski scored his seventh league goal of the season as leaders Barcelona beat Getafe to continue their perfect start in La Liga.

The 19th-minute strike made it seven wins from their first seven league games and put Hansi Flick’s side four points clear of rivals Real Madrid.

It came after visiting goalkeeper David Soria flapped at Jules Kounde’s cross and it dropped into Lewandowski’s path for the Pole to fire home on the volley from close range.

Lewandowski has now contributed to six goals in his last four league games (four goals and two assists).

Getafe had a chance to level when Alex Sola swung in a superb cross, but Carles Perez’s header was straight at Barca goalkeeper Inaki Pena.

The 25-year-old was making his first start of the season following captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury in the previous match against Villarreal that is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season.

At the other end Lamine Yamal cut inside and shot from the edge of the area but a superb diving save from Soria pushed the shot over the bar.

Raphinha was lively throughout and sent a header wide, had a low shot from a free-kick pushed wide, while another strike was saved by Soria’s legs.

Barca dominated, but were lucky not to be punished for missed chances in the dying seconds when Getafe substitute Borja Mayoral swept his shot wide, failing to connect properly with the ball.
