Mary Earps Returns to England Starting XI
After missing five games, the Lionesses goalkeeper returns, and Wiegman makes some significant adjustments.
With coach Sarina Wiegman making major changes after England’s 4-3 loss to Germany, Mary Earps is back in goal for the first time in five games as the Lionesses get ready to play South Africa. Earps has recovered from her last injury and is back in goal. She last started in a 2-1 loss to France.
In an explanation of the significant lineup changes, head coach Wiegman said:
“We have two friendly. We have the chance to see a lot of guys and test out a lot of different things as we prepare for the Euros next summer.” Wiegman was confident in Earps’ performance now that she was back in the fold, saying that “everyone has a point to prove every night.”
As England prepares their team for the forthcoming European Championship, Earps and other Lionesses are competing for a solid showing in this encounter. The Lionesses’ depth is further put to the test when defender Lotte Wubben-Moy sustains an injury that keeps him out of action.
