Samsunspor’s sad day

Gheorghe Multescu, the Romanian coach who achieved significant success with Samsunspor, passed away at the age of 72 in a hospital in Romania where he was receiving treatment. Multescu, who was hospitalized a few days ago due to pneumonia and whose condition worsened last Thursday, could not be saved despite all interventions and passed away this morning. The red-and-white club issued a condolence message on their social media account regarding the Romanian coach’s death, stating:

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gheorghe Multescu, who served as our head coach during the 1993 – 1997 and 2003 – 2004 seasons. The loss of our esteemed coach, who left a mark on the world of football, is a great loss for our community. We pray for the deceased’s soul, and extend our condolences and patience to his family, relatives, and all his loved ones.”

Multescu’s career at Samsunspor

Multescu served as Samsunspor’s head coach during two separate periods. His first tenure lasted from 1993 to 1997, during which he managed the team in 133 matches. He was the architect of Samsunspor’s most significant achievement, the Balkan Cup victory. Multescu’s second stint with the club was brief; he returned to Samsunspor in 2003 but was only in charge for 6 matches.

Starting his career in Turkey with Samsunspor, Multescu also managed Kayserispor, Adanaspor, Ankaragücü, and Gaziantepspor in the Süper Lig.
